Festival du Toit du Monde - 31 mai et la

Fête de la Solidarité Annuelle - 28 juin 

Nous venons tous d'ailleurs / We All Come From Somewhere Else...

          Comme tous les ans, EW a participé cette année au Festival du Toit du Monde (31 mai).  La ville de Poitiers organise une rencontre géante, avec des dizaines d'associations humanitaires, de nombreux bénévoles qui oeuvrent dans le domaine international, des groupes d'animation culturelle, et des milliers de participants - fanas de musique, curieux, militants, familles en promenade, habitants du quartier qui viennent se restaurer, visiteurs étrangers...  Vraiment une fête pour tous !  EW a été présente toute la journée, avec un stand et beaucoup de visiteurs - pour distribuer des brochures d'information, répondre à toute question, et vendre de l'artisanat commerce-équitable au profit de nos programmes à l'étranger.

          Un mois plus tard, le dimanche 28 juin, a eu lieu la 11è édition de la Fête de la Solidarité EW.  Normalement, cette manifestation se déroule tout l'après-midi, avec une importante programmation culturelle, nous permettant de recevoir un très large groupe d'amis, de sympathisants et de militants - pour que l'on se voie une fois par an, autour d'un pot, pour parler de choses et d'autres, nouer des contacts, s'amuser.  Cette année, cependant, en raison de différentes défaillances, de problèmes de disponibilité et de santé, nous avons dû prendre la décision tardive d'écourter quelque peu la durée de la fête - qui s'est transformée plutôt en un "pot de l'amitié"...

          Nous avons eu, toutefois, la chance d'accueillir un groupe vocal - Choeurs en Spectacle - sous la direction d'Odile Branciard.  Ces artistes travaillent depuis 2011 sur un projet artistique et militant : "Mahatma - Dire et Chanter NON à la Violence !"  Les musiciens venaient de notre région et aussi de Paris, de Nantes et de La Rochelle.  Leur prestation a été fort appréciée - que ce soient les textes poétiques ou des adaptations très réussies de chansons engagées.  Qu'ils soient vivement remerciés.

          Cette formule "lite" a néanmoins nécessité encore beaucoup de travail, et tous les membres tiennent à remercier chaleureusement les personnes qui se sont particulièrement dévouées : Claudine C, Hélène C, Annette G, Louis H et Myriam P. Merci !  Il faut insister sur le fait que "militer" dans la durée, et tenir - année après année - représente un engagement fort.  Nous avons eu la chance, depuis bientôt 15 ans, de pouvoir nous appuyer sur les uns et les autres pour réunir tant d'efforts collectifs et continuer à accomplir tant de belles choses...

          Pour cette 11è édition de la Fête de la Solidarité EW, il y avait beaucoup de monde pour partager un beau moment ensemble.  En plus du concert et des discussions autour d'un verre dans le jardin, des produits commerce-équitable et des produits "faits EW" étaient proposés à la vente.  Vers 19h a eu lieu le traditionnel tirage de la tombola - avec le concours des plus jeunes - Joanne, Adèle et son amie.  La Fête nous a permis de récolter des fonds importants - dont 100% seront reversés à nos programmes.  Les petites gouttes font des ruisseaux, qui finissent, en effet, par faire des rivières d'entraide et de solidarité.  Qu'on ne croie jamais que l'on ne peut rien faire, dans son coin : avec 600 € seulement, EW peut subventionner un système de récupération d'eau pluviale pour tout un village !  A bientôt, avec des informations sur la mission pédagogique EW.  Deux de nos membres se trouvent actuellement à Kotagiri, au Tamil Nadu.

          EW again participated in the City of Poitiers' annual "Roof over the World" Festival (31 May).  This gathering brings together an important number of NGOs, all working in different aspects of humanitarian development, with volunteers active on the international scene, and numerous cultural groups which perform on one of the many simultaneous venues throughout the southern downtown area.  There were also thousands of participants who came out for the day-long festivities : curious citizens, music fans, international visitors, families out for a day together - indeed, a Festival for All !  EW manned a stand for the duration of the event - distributing brochures and leaflets, answering all questions, selling fair-trade handicrafts - with all proceeds going to our overseas programs.

        One month later, on Sunday June 28th, EW organized its 11th version of its Annual Solidarity Festival.  In past years, this event has been staged for the entire afternoon - with a vast cultural program for the scores and scores of visitors - EW members, friends, sympathizers, folks in the neighborhood...  This allows us all to meet at least once a year, over a drink, in the garden, to chat, to exchange, to network, to make new friends and to have a great time together...  This year, however, due to program failures, conflicting scheduling problems, health issues, etc - the Executive Officers had to make a last-minute decision to scale back a bit, organizing a kind of EW "Happy Hours" :  free drinks from 5 pm. to 7 pm. !

          EW was nonetheless delighted to welcome along a local vocal group called  "Choeurs en Spectacle", under the musical direction of Mme. Odile Branciard.  These artists have all been working since 2011 on a larger project called "Mahatma - Let's Say and Sing NO to Violence !"  Musicians came from as far away as La Rochelle, Nantes and Paris.  Their performance was greatly appreciated - both the choice of poetic texts and of music "engagée".  Heartfelt thanks to everyone in the group.

          This "lite" version of the EW Solidarity Festival nonetheless still represented a fair amount of work - and all our members would like to publicly thank those who spent the day helping (organization, set up, clean up, manning a stand, etc...)  So special kudos to Claudine C, Hélène C, Annette G, Louis H and Myriam P.  Thanks !  It goes without saying that successfully carrying out our mission, year after year, entails a huge amount of commitment.  We have been very lucky, in the last 15 years, to have been able to rely on the ongoing help of so many, in order to collectively see through so many great joint projects...

          For this 11th edition of the EW Solidarity Festival, there were lots of people out to share this wonderful moment.  In addition to the concert and the extensive discussions and friendly conversations, the NGO sold many fair-trade products, along with its own goods.  At 7 pm., EW went ahead with its annual raffle - along with the help of the youngest participants : Joanne, Adèle and her little friend.  The afternoon allowed EW to bring in a handsome purse - of which 100% will be spent on our overseas programs.  Let it never be said that no one can accomplish anything in a little corner of the universe...  We all have a contribution to make to help ensure that mere drops become little brooks that, in turn, transform themselves into torrents.  This is our own experience  - for a mere 600 €, for example, EW can help bring a rain-water harvesting system to an entire village in South India.  More soon from EW - with news particularly from two of our members who are currently in Tamil Nadu on a pedagogical mission with the tribal peoples around Kotagiri.  All our best - EW.
