Les Fêtes de Fin d'Année - 

EW et l'Auto-Financement

          EW - bon an, mal an - arrive à auto-financer une partie très substantielle de ses besoins financiers.  Bien que nous ayons reçu en 2013 un peu plus de subventions publiques que par le passé, notre ONG a néanmoins financé pas moins de 75% de toutes ses dépenses sur fonds propres.

          Donc, en plus des cotisations et des dons privés, EW organise des activités telles que tombolas, vide-greniers, ventes d'objets issus du commerce équitable, d'artisanat - surtout pendant la période des fêtes de fin d'année.

          Cette année ne fait pas exception.  Entre mi-novembre et mi-décembre, EW a organisé six ventes de Noël.  De telles occasions sont toujours festives et nous procurent des revenus importants à redistribuer auprès de nos partenaires à l'étranger.  De plus, cela donne à notre ONG la possibilité de mener des activités de sensibilisation autour des questions nord-sud auprès de groupes socio-culturels très divers de la région (Centre-Ouest de la France).

          Des membres et des sympathisants de l'association ont tenu des stands pour vendre de l'artisanat et pour répondre à toutes sortes de questions dans les cadres suivants :

-  Festival Ornithologique de Ménigoute - à 30 kms de Poitiers
- Université de Poitiers - vente de petits cadeaux et interaction avec les étudiants
-  Club sportif "Garden Blues" avec ses centaines d'adhérents 
- CNED - Centre National d'Education à Distance, dont le personnel nous réserve toujours un accueil très chaleureux
- Groupe musical de Biard, "Chante la Boivre"...

          Tout cela représente, bien sûr, beaucoup de travail.  Merci donc à toutes celles qui ont participé à ces manifestations.  Bravo tout particulièrement à Odette, Danielle, Hélène, Annette, Géraldine, Isabelle, Alexandra, Alicia, Florine, Laurine, et Mathilde !

The Holiday Season - 

and EW's Auto-Financing Activities

          EW, in any given year, manages to ensure a huge percentage of auto-financing.  This last calendar year (2013), the NGO received more in terms of public subsidies than in the past yet, even so, fully 75% of all EW operations in 2013 were auto-financed. 

        So, in addition to members' dues and donations, EW organizes many different types of income-generating activities, such as raffles, swap meets, sales of fair-trade objects made by partners, and different handicraft sales - particularly during the holiday season...

          This year has been no exception.  From mid-November to mid-December, the organization has engaged in no fewer than six different Christmas sales operations.  These are always festive - and in addition to helping generate income to redistribute to our overseas partners, such events also provide the group with excellent outreach opportunities towards different segments of the local population here in central western France.

          EW members and sympathizers manned holiday stands to sell handicrafts and fair-trade products in a wide variety of communities.  EW was recently present and able to answer questions about its activities and raise general awareness about North-South issues in these venues, for example :

-  The national Ornithological Festival - held in a village 30 kms. outside of town

-     The University of Poitiers - interacting with the student body

-  A local Sports Club, called the "Garden Blues", with its hundreds of members

-  The French National Center for Long-Distance Education, whose hundreds of employees always reserve a warm welcome

-  The Choral Association of Biard, called "Chante la Boivre"...

          All of this obviously represents a lot of hard work, so special kudos to all those involved in sales this year.  Hats off to Odette, Danielle, Hélène, Annette, Géraldine, Isabelle, Alexandra, Alicia, Florine, Laurine, and Mathilde !
