          Il y a un an - le 29 août 2015 - disparaissait Melinda Tims, fondatrice et secrétaire de notre association, éducation.world, depuis sa création en 2003. Sa forte personnalité, son ouverture d'esprit, son charisme, son entrain nous manquent.  Cet article rend hommage à ce qu'elle était et à ce qu'elle a accompli.

         Maître de Conférences à l'Université François Rabelais de Tours, elle a consacré la plus grande partie de son temps disponible à travailler en étroite collaboration avec des organismes locaux de développement durable, que ce soit en Inde du Sud, au Vietnam, en Amérique Latine ou en Afrique Noire francophone.

          Une dizaine de missions à l'étranger - sur ses propres deniers, bien entendu, conformément à notre charte éthique - de multiples actions de sensibilisation à Poitiers auprès des scolaires, étudiants, grand public, nous ont montré à la fois l'étendue de ses compétences et la force de son engagement et de sa générosité.

          Elle a su insuffler à notre association sa propre philosophie - toujours mise en pratique - respect des cultures, refus d'être servie et/ou considérée comme supérieure, échanges et enrichissement réciproques. A titre d'exemple : "L'Inde - disait-elle - m'a beaucoup plus apporté que je ne lui ai donné".

         Elle demeure pour nous un exemple que nous nous efforçons de suivre.  Nous poursuivons le travail commencé avec elle dans le même esprit. 

          Nos partenaires avaient pour elle le plus grand respect et n'ont jamais cessé de lui donner des preuves d'amitié et d'affection.  L'un d'eux - Cletus Babu du SCAD (Tirunelveli - Tamil Nadu) nous écrit : "Nous sommes heureux que le prochain article de votre blog soit consacré à Melinda.  Comme promis nous vous envoyons des photos des arbres que nous avons plantés en son honneur et que nous espérons voir sur votre blog."

           Education.world poursuit ses activités à l'étranger (éducation, microcrédit, infrastructures, etc...) et sera présente au pique-nique de "Coeur en Pâte", le dimanche 4 septembre et à la Journée des Associations, le dimanche 11 septembre.

          One year ago, on August 29th 2015, Melinda Tims, founding member and secretary of our organization, Education.World, from the onset in 2003,  was taken from us in her prime. We miss her, her warm and strong personality, her enthusiasm, her vision of the world.

         Professor at the University  François Rabelais in Tours, she devoted most of her available time working closely with local administrations involved in long-term development in Southern India, Vietnam, Latin America or French speaking African countries.

          About ten on-site expeditions - costs of which came out of her own pocket, as per our code of ethics - numerous actions for awareness in Poitiers with school and university students as well as the general public, demonstrated both the extent of her knowledge and abilities, as well as the depth of her involvement and generosity.

          She was able to transfer to our organization her own philosophy - always adhering to it - respect for different cultures, refusal to be dotted upon and/or considered superior, two-way exchanges and enlightenment.   She used to say about her experiences in India, for example : " I received more from India than I could possibly give".

               She remains an example for us, which we follow through our various programs - education, "micro-credit", water-supply related issues, etc...

            Our partners had the utmost respect for her and never ceased to show their friendship and affection.  One of them - Cletus Babu, Head of SCAD, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu - recently wrote : "Good to know that the next article of your blog will be about Melinda.  As mentioned to you (....) we promised to send the pictures of the trees planted in her honour (....)  The first death anniversary of Melinda is fast approaching and it will be nice if this will also be published then."

              Education.World is moving forward with its programs - education, economy, environment - and will attend both the "Coeur en Pate" picnic - a yearly event organized by this association which supports EW - on Sunday, September 4th,  and "Association Day" organized by the Town Council every other year, on Sunday, September 11th.
