             ACTIVITES D'AUTOMNE / FALL EVENTS

          Journée des associations : Tous les deux ans, la municipalité de Poitiers organise une journée de rencontre des diverses associations de la ville.  Cette année ce fut le 11 septembre (presque l'automne).  Nous étions environ 400 au Parc des Expositions.  De multiples activités représentées : sportives, culturelles, humanitaires, etc. 10 000 visiteurs environ.

           EW était présente, bien entendu, toute la journée.  Belle occasion de rencontres, d'information, d'échanges.  Une exposition de photos donnait à voir nos diverses activités ; nous présentions également de l'artisanat du Sud de l'Inde, du Vietnam, d'Amérique Latine... Nous avons pu établir de nouveaux contacts avec des personnes désireuses de nous rejoindre dans nos activités militantes, certaines prêtes à s'investir et à partir en mission dans les ONG locales avec lesquelles nous travaillons.

            IUT GEA : Nos liens avec cette IUT durent depuis déjà longtemps ! Nous entamons notre 8ème année de collaboration.  Nos buts restent les mêmes : sensibiliser les jeunes aux relations Nord-Sud, leur permettre de découvrir l'action humanitaire, leur donner l'occasion d'appliquer leurs connaissances en marketing, communication à un domaine non commercial, nous apporter un soutien financier à travers des événements organisés par eux.

             Il s'agit, pour ces étudiants de 2ème année, d'un projet tutoré sous la tutelle de Madame Alice Gaborieau : un groupe de 5 jeunes motivés et enthousiastes que nous rencontrons et suivons régulièrement.

            Les idées ne manquent pas :

   

          - participation tout d'abord à nos côtés - le 19 novembre - à la Journée de solidarité internationale (dans le cadre de la semaine internationale, SSI).

          - vente de petits-déjeuners à l'IUT au cours du mois de novembre.

         - organisation d'un tournoi de basket à Nouaillé-Maupertuis, pour les enfants de 7 à 10 ans, en décembre.

          - participation au Marché de Noël de Fontaine-le-Comte, toujours à nos côtés,  en décembre également.

         Nous traversons actuellement une période où un repli sur soi - individuel ou national - une méfiance à l'égard des étrangers, sont parfois de dangereuses tentations.   Nous devons être prudents sans doute, mais il nous semble  très important de faire prendre conscience, aux jeunes en particulier, que seules une ouverture aux autres, quels qu'ils soient, une véritable solidarité envers nos frères humains, d'où qu'ils viennent, sont une réponse digne aux problèmes qui bouleversent notre monde.

ENGLISH-LANGUAGE VERSION 

     
Association Day

          Every other year the city of Poitiers organizes an open day for the various local non-profit organizations.  This year it fell on September 11^th (almost fall).  There were approximately 400 of us at the ”Parc des Expositions” (Convention Center).  A variety of activities were on display: sports, culture, humanitarian, etc… The event attracted roughly 10 000 visitors throughout the day.

          EW was in attendance all day, of course.  A good opportunity for exchanges, information and meeting  people. A photo exhibition displayed our various activities; we also presented handicraft from Southern India, Vietnam, Latin America… We were able to establish new contacts with people wishing to join us in our different  activities, some of them willing to commit and work with our partners abroad.

IUT GEA (University Managing Department).  

           Our involvement with this Department started a long time ago.  This will be our eighth year of partnership.  Our goals remain the same: to inform the younger population on North/South relations, to enable them to discover humanitarian action, give them the opportunity to use their knowledge in marketing, communication and lend us a helping hand financially through events they will organize.

          Second year students have a choice of options as part of their curriculum.  This year, five of them will be working with us under the guidance of their tutor, Ms. Alice Gaborieau.  They are all committed and enthusiastic youths whom we meet and coach regularly.

             No lack of ideas here:

- First of all, involvement alongside us – on November 19^th -  in the International Solidarity Day (part of the International Solidarity Week, SSI).

- Selling breakfasts at their school during the month of November.

- Organizing a basketball tournament in Nouaillé-Maupertuis (a small town near Poitiers) in December, for children aged 7 to 10.

- Again alongside us, attending the Christmas Market in Fontaine-le Comte (another small town near Poitiers) also in December.

           We are currently experiencing a period in time when self-withdrawing - on an individual or national level - distrust of foreigners, are common temptations.  We certainly have to be aware of difficulties and dangers.  But it seems very important to us to help people realize, especially the younger generation, that being open to others, whoever they may be, showing solidarity towards our fellow human brothers, wherever they come from, are an appropriate response to the problems affecting our world.
