L'ecole de Tenali a celebre son 18e anniversaire le 6 mars. Outre les discours des invites d'honneur, il y avait un excellent programme culturel. Les enfants s'y preparaient depuis des semaines: recitations, sketches a but educatif, danses traditionnelles ou a la maniere Bollywood.

Le 1er extrait video montre les enfants prononcant le "serment indien" (voir paroles ci-dessous). Dans un pays qui compte plus d'un milliard d'habitants, issus de differents milieux ethniques, culturels et linguistiques, il est evident que l'on insiste sur l'unite nationale.

Le 2e extrait est une mise en scene sur fond musical issu du film "Jai" (Unites) qui condamne les mefaits de l'alcoolisme et exalte les vertus du soutien communautaire. Les garcons representent les epoux titubant, bouteilles d'alcool en main. Ivres, ils tapent leurs femmes jusqu'a les faire tomber. De petites infirmieres vetues de brun leur viennent en aide ainsi que tout le voisinage. Toutes les femmes se relevent, fortes et unies, pretes a construir une Inde meilleure.

Le serment indien:
L'Inde est mon pays
Tous les indiens sont mes freres et soeurs
J'aime mon pays
Et je suis fier de son heritage riche et varie
Je m'efforcerai toujours d'en etre digne
Je respecterai mes parents, mes professeurs et mes aines
Et je les traiterai avec courtoisie
Je m'engage a me devouer pour mon pays et pour mon peuple
Seuls leur bien etre et leur prosperite m'apporteront le bonheur

ENGLISH LANGUAGE VERSION -18th anniversary party - Tenali school

The Tenali school celebrated its 18th anniversary on March 6th. In addition to guests speakers, there was a great cultural program. The kids had been eagerly preparing for weeks - recitations, educational skids, traditional dance, Bollywood take-offs.

In the 2 video excerpts here, the children begin the event with the "Indian Pledge" (words below). In a country of over a billion people, coming from different ethnics, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, it is clear that a sense of national unity is fostered.

The 2nd video is a well-known song from the movie "Jai" (Unity) denouncing the evils of alcoholism and extolling the virtues of community. The kids act out the lyrics. The boys are husbands teetering around with bottles of spirits. When drunk, they beat up their wives who fall to the ground. Little brown-clad nurses and neighbors come to the aid of the abused women and rise up strong in unity to build a better India.

"The Indian Pledge":
India is my country
All Indians are my brothers and sisters
I love my country
And I am proud of its rich and varied heritage
I shall always strive to be worthy of it
I shall give my parents, teachers and all elders respect
And treat everyone with courtesy
To my country and my people
I pledge my devotion
In their well-being and prosperity alone lies my happiness
